On December 17th, 1970, in the
heart of Stockholm, Sweden, a child was born, and
not just any child, but one that twenty-four
years later would leave everything familiar to him and
move nearly 6,000 miles to Hollywood, California with
a vision to make a difference and leave a mark that
would echo into the hearts of millions. His bold 'everything
is possible' attitude drove him to work as hard as he
could, creating, not waiting, for opportunity.
Anybody who knows Satori knows that he
will stop at nothing to make someone happy and see them
succeed. His song writing is no different. Live with
Passion, his debut album, is fully charged with emotional
lyrics and singing that reminds you of who you are and
why you're here. Satori pulls no punches in letting
you know how he feels. His music is raw, bold, and honest.
His singing, emotional. Satori picked up his first guitar
when he was five, playing behind his stepfather as he
mimicked his moves on stage. By the time he turned eight,
he was getting restless, yearning to learn more, so
he took it upon himself to hire an official classical
guitar teacher, paying for the lessons out of his allowance,
a total of five dollars a week. The investment paid
off, as you can hear the classical influence in his
melodic and beautiful acoustic guitar-picking on the
inspiring and triumphant power ballads, Walking in my
Father's Shoes, Momma, and Forever.
At thirteen, Satori formed his first band,
U&I. They played fun, melodic rock that was inspired
by eighties bands like Europe and Bon Jovi. Satori says,
"Music has always been something that has inspired
me to feel up when I've been down, and it's gotten me
feeling totally ecstatic when I was happy. Music not
only delivers words but also moves you emotionally through
the rhythms and sensitivity the musician brings to it.
And when you add lyrics that mean something, music can
totally transform your life. Many times, it's more effective
and profound than any therapy or drug could ever be."
Singing is something Satori now feels
extremely passionate about. He loves to sing, but hasn't
always felt that way. "Since I was a kid, people
always told me, 'Shut up you can't sing, just play the
guitar, that you know how to do.' So recording this
album and actually singing on it means a lot to me.
I've worked extremely hard on my singing and I am very
proud of my vocal performance."
It all started in September 2001 when
Satori came home from a visit to Sweden and felt inspired
to start writing music after having an almost ten year
period where he couldn't even look at his guitar. "I
found this book on my shelf I had bought a year earlier.
The book was called, 'Set Your Voice Free' and in it,
Roger Love, now my favorite vocal coach in the whole
world, goes on to clarify many of the myths people have
about singing, or more specifically, the limits many
people put on themselves when it comes to using this
incredible instrument we all have. I thought, 'I have
nothing to lose, let me give this a shot and see if
this guy actually can help me do something that everybody
has told me I couldn't do - sing!" Satori took
on singing with the same determination and ferocity
as he did his Martial Arts training. " My whole
life is about mastery, so there is no difference with
mastering my vocal ability." Working on his voice
every day for one year, a total of 2000 hours of complete
immersion, Satori shaped his voice, writing songs that
reflected what he really wanted to express, which he
turned into the passionate, fiercely uplifting, ten
song album, Live with Passion.
Satori explains, "Live with Passion
is an expression of the many experiences I've had since
I was a kid and teenager. It also reflects the real
and raw emotions I've gone through in the last decade.
Some of the songs also express the love and compassion
I have for the thousands of people I've had the privilege
to help during my years as a Life Results Coach and
Martial Arts teacher. I love the people I work with
very much, and I want them to have what they truly deserve
in their life. This album is a tribute to all the people
who can relate to living at the raw edge of emotions,
holding nothing back, and, who through it all, are still
standing. I guess if you're reading this right now,
you're one of them. The whole process of my first album,
where I wrote, sang, produced, played guitar, and arranged
my songs, was a way of proving to myself what is possible
when you don't listen those limiting little voices in
your head or the people around you saying shit like,
'You're never going to make it. It's so hard. What if
it doesn't work?' I say, 'What if it does work? What
if it's easy, not as in simple, but if it's easy because
it's something you feel passionate about, and it's fun?
And what if you have so much energy that you want to
follow through no matter what? And what if you do make
it? Whatever that means, since that's just a reflection
of each persons rules of what has to happen in order
for them to feel like they've 'made it'."
A martial artist since the age of six,
Satori Mateu opened his first Karate school in 1994
and became a World and United States champion several
times over. At his Santa Monica Dojo, he taught hundreds
of kids and their families the power of mastering their
mind, body and spirit.
He then took his insight into the human
condition, going on over 52 radio stations and TV shows,
sharing it with millions and empowering people to breakthrough
their limitations and fears. In 2002, Satori,
packed up his car and drove 12,000 miles
to thirty-four cities in less than two months doing
events across the country, inspiring people to step
up, go for what they want, and remember who they really
are.
Satori's long awaited book, The Ultimate
Journey - Your Life, will soon be in stores. In it,
he distills the very best of what it is that makes people
do what they do, and the secrets behind what makes people
live not just a good, excellent, or even extraordinary
life, but an absolutely outstanding life; a life that
is legendary. "There are many people who live a
happy life, or a life that is okay, but few live a life
of extraordinary fulfillment, where love, joy, passion,
and an appreciation for the small things in life, are
the standard. Some actually believe that's not even
possible, or it's just for the chosen few. "Anyone
who reads The Ultimate Journey - Your Life, or listens
to Live with Passion will know that living a life that
is legendary, is for everyone."
Satori says, "When it all comes
down to it, we all have a story. We can all find reasons
or excuses why we shouldn't go for it in life, to do
what we love and feel passionate about, but in the end,
none of these stories will make us happy. Through my
music, books, seminars, karate, and being a force for
good, my life is about doing whatever it takes, truly
giving a shit, reminding and inspiring people to step
up, take action, to love, and to have fun. Especially...
to love."
