Every day people are drugged,
abused and beaten; physically, mentally, spiritually,
and emotionally, they are violated into submission.
From the time we're kids till late in adulthood, many
authority figures try to control and suppress our
reality: You don't see what you see, don't hear what
you hear, don't feel what you feel, and you're not
as good as you think you are. Of course, most people
don't do it consciously or to be mean, but rather,
as a way to feel important and better about themselves.
This story is a true reflection from a time in my
life when my freedom was taken away by people who
did not take the time to understand or know who I
really am. What I realized from this experience is
that my freedom could never truly be taken away because
no one can take away what is inside of you without
your permission. People may try to suppress or shut
you up, but only you have the power to give your freedom
away. I know you're a smart person, so you would never
let that happen to you.
They said my mind was going crazy
But I felt that I could heal the world
I didn’t see what they wanted me to see
I refused to be who I am not
They tried to steal my identity
But they couldn’t take that away from me
So they locked me up and threw away the key
But it didn’t change who I am inside
Now I’m so grateful that I am alive
